アディダス・スペツィアルのスタッフが熱く語る「グレンバック」の魅力

Detail from the Glenbuck SPZL. When we were creating this shoe we looked at a number of OG shoes that used the Dellinger web on the midsole. I had noticed that on a number of them there was a ledge that ran around the heel which has never been recreated on any previous web based reissues and when I asked why I discovered that the ‘ledge’ came from a manufacturing process called ‘grouping’. Licensees would try and save costs on mould production by using one tooling mould for several different upper sizes – grouping them together – which would mean there was sometimes a ledge at the back of the midsole. We wanted to recreate this detail in order to add to the authenticity of the shoe’s look. To achieve this we had to use midsoles that were a half size bigger than the upper across the whole size split which led to some interesting conversations between the developers and the factory. I am really pleased with how these came out and whilst I know that most people don’t care about these kind of details we feel it’s important to cater to those that do. I have seen a few comments referencing the APS colourway (APS are white based where these are a light grey with a different material mix) which I personally had never considered until now but can see the similarity. The shoe that inspired the Glenbuck was an unknown OG running shoe – I say inspired as we tweaked the upper pattern and used better materials. #adidas #spezial #SPZL #inspezialwetrust

なかなかの長文に圧倒されますが、彼が手掛けた2018年春夏モデル、アディダス・グレンバック SPZL（スペツィアル）についての、リリース1週間前のインスタです。

その熱い思いと、その製作過程の裏側が詳しく書かれています。

グレンバック SPZLについての詳細。

このシューズを作る過程で私たちは、ミッドソールに「デリンジャー・ウェブ」を搭載したシューズを、いくつも見てきました。

そして、その中でもヒール部分に沿って「棚状の出っ張り」があるモデルが、けっこうあることに気づきました。

今までの「ウェブ」搭載モデルの復刻において、この「棚」が再現されたことはありません。

下の写真は1980年にリリースされた「アディダス・ニューヨーク」。ソールのあみあみの部分が「デリンジャー・ウェブ」（考案者で、当時オレゴン大学でクロスカントリーのコーチを努めたビル・デリンジャー氏の名前から）。蜘蛛の巣（Web）状のナイロンが、走行中に着地の衝撃を分散するというもの。

シューズのバランスに比べてミッドソールが若干大き目で、ヒール側が少しはみ出しているのが分かるでしょうか。この出っ張りをここでは「棚」（ledge）と呼んでいます。

この「棚」が「グループ化」と呼ばれる製造プロセスによってできたことを発見しました。

ライセンスの取得者は、いくつかの異なるアッパーのサイズに対して1つの金型を使用することで、金型生産にかかるコストを削減しようとしました。

このプロセスによって、ミッドソールの後ろに段差が時々登場しました。

効率化のため、例えば25cmの靴と27cmの靴に同じソールを使用した、ということです。

私たちはこのディテールを再現したいと思いました。
より本物らしさが増すようにです。

開発スタッフと工場の間での興味深いミーティングの結果、「棚」の再現を成功させるために、アッパーよりもハーフサイズの大きめのミッドソールを採用する必要がある、という結論に。

本当にリリースできたことが嬉しいと思っています。
